The Animal Assisted Academy offers continuing education and professional development for healthcare and human service providers, and dog trainers and handlers who want to include dogs in their practice. Our coursework caters to occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, mental health providers, educators, recreational therapists, dog handlers, dog trainers, puppy raisers, program management teams and more! We are actively creating content and recruiting guest speakers! Check back frequently, new courses and discussion groups will be added as they are developed!

Locally owned and operated by a retired military family, Dogwood Therapy Services provides compassionate, innovative care through occupational therapy and dog preparation, socialization, and training that nurtures meaningful relationships between people and animals.
What We Do
We specialize in human occupational therapy (OT) services for individuals of all ages who face physical, cognitive, or psychiatric challenges that affect daily living. Our approach combines traditional OT methods with non-traditional, animal-assisted, and nature-based therapies.
Our integrated offerings include:

Occupational therapy evaluations, servicess, and consultations
- Animal-assisted services and dog training for pets, emotional support animals, and service dogs
- Service dog evaluations (self-training model)
- Nature therapy experiences
- Individual and group activities, classes, and therapy programs
- AniCare programs for children and adults (focused on humane education and services in cases of animal neglect or cruelty)
- Continuing education, professional development, mentoring, and supervision
- University fieldwork, capstone projects, and post-professional rotations
- National and international workshops

You will need a digital copy with the front and back of the participant's insurance card, and a referral from the participants primary care physician (must have a diagnosis, and referral for occupational therapy evaluation and treatment).
